DWN Member Conference

DWN’s national member conference is an important opportunity for members to connect and engage through networking, information sharing, education and skills-building training.

2024 Conference Highlights from Atlanta, Georgia:

  • Over 40 formerly detained leaders in attendance - the most ever at a DWN event offering their invaluable first-hand experience
  • 185 members and partners in attendance from 23 states plus Puerto Rico and Washington, DC.
  • 12 workshops, two plenaries, and regional caucus breakouts
  • 40 travel and lodging scholarships awarded to conference participants, with priority given to people directly impacted
  • A celebration for Silky’s Shah’s new book, Unbuild Walls: Why Immigrant Justice Needs Abolition, at the conference reception that featured remarks from Silky’s editor, Maria Isabelle Carlos of Haymarket Books, and the work of Angelica Frausto, DWN’s Artist in Residency
  • A spotlight on the current landscape of what communities in Georgia are facing with remarks from local leaders and learnings from the Stop Cop City campaign 
  • A Communities not Cages march and rally with about 150 people, featuring a powerful and diverse lineup of speakers
  • A team of nine interpreters, providing a bilingual space in English and in Spanish, staying true to DWN’s belief in language justice
  • A vendor market that included booksellers, clothing, and member swag
  • Childcare for conference participants
